Tree House at Malu

Just had a most enjoyable couple of days at Malu, near Naivasha, with the Power family and Beverley. The Tree House is situated on a bend in the Malewa River with great views. Looking down, there is the river far below (no hippos in evidence, though they are often seen there) and looking straight ahead, into the upper branches of the trees, there are sykes, colobus and vervet monkeys. There is the continual sound of the river rushing over rocks. Very peaceful. The house itself is not actually supported by a tree as one might imagine, but by tall stilts, some of which are steel. It is a little rickety; when people walk around in it, there is a significant wobble in the floorboards. It will probably need some serious work done on it soon, but for now it is charmingly quaint. 

We had a walk in a nearby forest accompanied by a guide,  an askari and a friendly, but nervous dog. The guide explained that the dog was nervous in the forest because her companion dogs had been killed by the leopards there. At night? I asked. No during the day. Oh. Leopard droppings were pointed out along the way... but we all came back safely. On the way back to the Tree House I had a ride on the roof rack of the car. Exciting - it required quite a lot of squirming out of the way of low branches and lying flat on occasions, but the rest of the time the views were great.
Back at Turi now. Preparation and reports to be done, but also a trip to England to plan! Five weeks to go! So excited!
