Into the final term

Tomorrow is the last day of the Easter holiday; on Friday there are meetings and on Sunday the pupils return. The Supreme Court decided unanimously that the presidential election had been fair, Kenyatta had his inauguration yesterday, and everything seems to have have settled back down for the time being.There are many Kenyans who feel this was not the best outcome for the country, but everyone must feel relief that there was not a repeat of the violence which followed the election in 2007.
I have seen some beautiful parts of Kenya this holiday, travelling to Naivasha and Samburu and then afterwards to an out-of-the-way place called Koru in the direction of Kisumu.

The scenery in all these places was spectacular in different ways and very difficult to describe effectively, so I hope the pictures give some idea. In Samburu we saw some very exciting birds and animals and had a slightly nervous night when there was a flash flood in the river running past the camp. The last time this happened a few years ago,  people were airlifted out and the whole camp was swept away. This time, although the river suddenly filled right up to the top of the banks with a great rushing noise, it did not burst its banks.

On the way to Koru there was a lot of new road building which has been much needed in the west of Kenya. The travelling was very smooth for about an hour, as we went on completed new road, and then some of the roughest I've experienced as we drove alongside the miles of unfinished road. Kenya employs Chinese road builders and it can be seen how the quality is a lot better on the new constructions, with thicker tarmac and proper drainage culverts. As we passed villages, instead of calling out 'wzungu!' (white people!) to us, the children called out 'Kichina!' (Chinese people!) which was quite funny.

When term starts my Year 8 Tutor Group and Year 8 maths pupils will be fast approaching their entrance exams for the Senior School.
I am looking forward to the Shakespeare module with my Year 7 English sets, which was great fun last year.
