Laurence returned to England on 22nd December and Lyn arrived. On the way back to Turi, we took two hours to get out of a traffic-congested Nairobi and later spent an hour and a half in the heat by the side of a main road just past Naivasha, in a car whose petrol gauge read tank quarter full, when in fact it was empty! Another quarter of an hour in Nakuru for me to express my opinion of the car hire service in no uncertain terms, then on toTuri ...and Lyn's holiday began.
On Christmas Eve we went on safari in Nakuru Park. This time it was much hotter and dustier and there was longer between seeing animals than when I'd been with Laurence. However, as well as large numbers of giraffe, zebra and implala, we saw one or two additional animals and birds; a pair of black-backed jackals, a pair of black rhino and a crested eagle.

Christmas dinner was shared with others at one of the senior school boarding house common rooms, with everyone contributing part of the meal (carrots and butternut for 27, as well as roast potatoes for 8, take quite a lot of peeling!) It was very jolly and included a rousing rendition of The Twelve Days of Christmas with actions halfway through.
Since then we have been in the school pool, on the tour of the grounds and forest (and seen the colobus monkeys that live there) and been shopping in Nakuru. Lyn got into fending off street sellers and haggling over prices for her souvenirs like an old hand.
